Summer 2024 Anime releases: Streets say deer girls are the new cat girls

While this anime is naturally based on the Suicide Squad as we know it from DC Comics, it’s treated as an OVA. The Suicide Squad are sent to a different world (the minimum requirement to call something an isekai of course). Very different from the Gotham they are used to, in this world there are swords, magic, orcs and even dragons. To keep this band of criminals in check, nano bombs have been implanted in their necks. They either succeed in their mission or face death.

Based on a manga series, in Oshi no Ko the successful idol Ai Hoshino welcomes parenthood, although she wants to retain her idol image at the same time. Luckily, her doctor happens to be a fan, willing to put everything at stake to ensure a scandal free return to the stage. On the fateful eve of her delivery, the doctor is slain by Ai’s deluded stalker. And so he is reborn as her child, Aquamarine. Even as her child, he is still determined to help her shine in the oftentimes dark entertainment industry.

Based on a light novel series with a manga adaptation. Transfer student Alya is popular thanks to her stunning looks and good marks in class. She sits next to the nerdy and sleepy Kuze Masachika. She often complains about her classmate, but sometimes utters a flirtatious line in Russian towards him. Little does she know he actually understands Russian, and he has no intention of telling her that.

Based on a mix of Youtube videos and a light novel series by Ghost Mikawa, with a manga adaptation. Yuta Asamura has gained a new stepsister now that his father has remarried. Saki Ayase is the most beautiful girl in her grade, of course. Since they both come from broken homes, they know what’s important for a woman and man to live together happily, they decide to keep a reasonable distance. Not too close, not too opposing. Each with their own struggles, they slowly grow comfortable living together.

Based on a manga series. Mao Tsuchiya and his roommate Hisashi Otome are bound by three promises. Mao can’t tell anyone that Hisashi has a boyfriend. Hisashi will never approach Mao romantically. And lastly they have to respect each other’s privacy. Even with these ground rules, dorm life is not as easy as the movies make it seem. And some promises are hard to keep.

Based on a manga series. We follow second-year high school student Masamune Okumura, the president and only member of the maga club. An otaku pure sang. He claims to have no interest in real girls because of his obsession with the fictional Liliel. Then the first-year cosplayer Lilysa Amano joins the club and convinces Okumura to become her photographer. Her favorite character happens to also be Liliel. Now Okumura is conflicted about his romantic feelings.

Based on a web comic and manga series. Protagonist Eiji Kitahama joins his school’s drama club thinking it will be like his favorite manga. He dreams of having his own harem. Rin, one of the club members, actually has a crush on him and tries different personas to win him over. But should she just not be herself?

Based on a light novel series with a manga adaptation. Mimori and his classmates are summoned by a goddess to come to a fantasy world and become heroes. But while most of his friends have gained some exceptional powers, he is only E-rank. The goddess thinks he’s useless and banishes him to a dungeon from which no one has ever returned. While his skills are low level, they are more abnormal than believed initially. Mimori vows to take revenge.

Based on a manga series, the story follows Hayato Kasukabo. After successfully passing his entrance exams for the University of Tokyo, he returns to Miura after a notice that his grandmother has passed away. Being her only heir, he intends to close her café. But upon arrival he learns that five women have been working and living with his grandmother. After learning about their struggles and their bond with his late grandmother, he decides to reopen the café instead.

Based on a South Korean webtoon with a manhwa release and mobile game adaptations. The protagonist is a boy who goes by the name Twenty-Fifth Bam (Bam in Korean can mean either Night or Chestnut). He has spent most of his life trapped beneath a mysterious tower. Until he meets Rachel, who tells him about the world and becomes his best friend. But eventually Rachel has to leave because the tower calls to her. Bam is determined to go in the tower himself too and find her again. The real adventure begins once he’s inside the tower and encounters allies that will help him on his journey to find Rachel.

Based on a manga series. Torako Koshi is a beautiful and popular high school girl. One day she rescues a strange girl on her way to school. The deer-girl Shinako was hanging from power lines. Noko then transfers to the same school and starts dragging Torako along. Somehow only Torako notices that something is odd about Noko, but she has no other choice but to go along with her antics as the deer-girl threatens to expose Torako’s hidden past as a yankee.

Based on a manga series, this is the sequel to ‘Fairy Tail’. Natsu Dragneel and his team form a wizard guild named Fairy Tail, with the purpose to embark on the 100 Years quest. For over a century, nobody has succeeded in completing the quest. The goal is to seal the Five Dragon Gods, whose power could destroy the world. The guild also recruits a new member called Touka. Touka is possessed by a witch who wants to use the dragons’ powers for her own gain.

Also known as Shoshimin series, this anime is based on a mystery novel series with a manga adaptation. The story follows Jougorou Kobato, who just wants to live a quiet life after some painful experience. He’s in a mutually beneficial relationship with Yuki Osanai who wants to live the same life. But their plans to live an ordinary life keep getting interrupted as they’re pulled into mysteries and disasters.

This OVA centers on the cheerleading sport. Misora Kanata has won a national championship in middle school, but can no longer jump after a previous mistake during competition. She’s now a first-year student on the Takanosaki High School cheerleading team. She makes some new friends and together they form the PoMPoMs, a new cheer group that goes beyond regular cheerleading.

Based on a manga series. Protagonist Osamu hits the Isekai jackpot as he winds up in another world with superpowers and cute sidekicks. But this gloomy author just wants to find a quiet place and shows no interest in leveling up. The reluctant hero keeps getting tragically pulled into heroics.

Based on a light novel series with a manga adaptation. The Heavenly Empire (strong technology) has been in a seemingly endless war with the Nebulis Sovereignty (powerful magic). Iska, a master swordsman from the Empire, and Aliceliese, the Ice Calamity Witch from Nebulis, carry a secret desire to end the war without further bloodshed. But they are sent to the battlefield in order to kill each other. As circumstances keep bringing them together, they start to look into ways to end the war peacefully instead.

Based on a light novel series with a manga adaptation. Five races have fought for supremacy on earth, which the humans won under the leadership of the hero Sid. Until history is rewritten in a way that erases Sid. Humanity loses and dragons and demons reign supreme. A boy named Kai is somehow unaffected by the alterations. He learns he never even existed before history was rewritten. He meets the mysterious Rinne and wants to become the hero himself and free humanity.
