Greece’s 5 New Exciting Videogames

These last 5 years, there has been a huge bloom in gaming development all over the world. A recent example of that is the game Black Myth: Wukong, a Souls-like adventure game from Game Science, a studio originating from China. With that in mind, we at BGeek would like to talk about some games in development that originate in Greece, the homeland, and current place of living for lots of us here.

Most of the following games we are gonna talk about, we found through the events of IGDA Greece. We cannot thank them enough for inviting us to their networking event in Thessaloniki. IGDA’s mission to provide learning opportunities from professionals in the workspace, and even finding sponsors for new developers and new studios, is crucial to help improve the growth of the development scene in Greece.

Jolt – Epos Game Studio

Jolt is an upcoming 2D action video game set in a futuristic era. Humans are imprisoned on a planet-sized space station by aliens. Humanity’s only job is to create the aliens’ weaponry and meet the quota, or they will be destroyed. This is where Orpheus emerges to change the fate of humanity.

Unlike any other “hero”, Orpheas is a street kid and an addict who suddenly discovers that he has the power to transform into energy and decides to use his new power to fight the battle against the aliens, facing a two-front war, as he has to also struggle against his addiction.

Epos Game Studio aims to create a game with a unique narrative while also offering intense 2D gameplay inspired by other classic action platformers. While there is no official release window yet, one of the lead developers, Giorgos Tsolakidis, said we can expect a demo soon. // see interview

Papi’s Playhouse – Van Studio

Where the Night Falls in Palermo meets Liar’s Bar with a big twist. Papi’s Playhouse is a multiplayer online card game that takes place in a bar. Each player is assigned a role that comes with unique win conditions. The goal of the game is to survive the table. The player possesses cards that they use to harm the other players or to give themselves advantages. The goal is to survive the table by playing the cards strategically and using other means such as voice chat alteration or weapons.

The gameplay creates a lot of opportunities for variety, while also leaving space for experimenting. The game does not have a release window yet, unfortunately, but the creators said they are planning to release a demo soon. Until then, you can wishlist it on Steam.

Deathly Reprieve – Satyr Interactive

This next game impressed us because it is being created by a solo developer who just started programming. Sotiris Psichomanis is a sound designer and a composer who decided to create his own video game called Deathly Reprieve. It is characterized as a story driven tactical shooter set in a not so distant futuristic world where you lead your own mercenary organization.

The game is inspired a lot by all-time classic arena shooters like Quake or Unreal Tournament, with the addition of some RPG and strategy elements. The sole developer is hoping to release the game sometime during 2026. Until then, there is a playable demo on the game’s Steam page.

Mechanis Obscura – NoBudgetStudios

Mechanis Obscura is another game made by a solo developer named Kostas Klimantakis. In this Psychological escape-room thriller game, you take the role of an unfortunate character who has been abducted and forced into a mechanical labyrinth hidden beneath the city of Thessaloniki. The only choice you have is to solve all the puzzles and escape while, at the same time, find out more about the reason you were chosen and who is behind this scheme.

The game combines old school puzzle solving mechanics with modern elements like live-action storytelling and ARG (Alternate Reality Game) elements. What really impresses us is the atmosphere of the game. It is heavy and dark, inspired by 2000s era horror films, as the creator mentions.

It is also worth mentioning that the game was featured in a competition at Gameathlon’s Hellenic Game Awards (Day Zero, 2025), winning both awards in the categories: Best Game and Public Vote Winner. While there is no release date yet, the game has an active page on Steam, where the developer posts updates frequently.

Thief’s Shelter – Geo Games

Last but not least is a new point and click 3D adventure game called Thief’s Shelter. In this psychological adventure, you take control of James, a detective suffering from artificial dementia. He is summoned to Birmingham, England, to investigate a homicide that took place in a mansion, only to find out that there are more sinister things happening. James’ condition really affects how you see the story, as the character cannot distinguish what is real and what is in his head.

The player has in his possession multiple tools, such as a UV light and a digital camera, to discover new clues that will help him progress through the different puzzles of the mansion. Do not take a lot of time, though, as the game will not wait for you. The environments shift as you progress through the story, so any missed clues or opportunities will result in a different playthrough in the campaign.

A good opportunity to replay the game again and find out what you missed. In this particular game, you will not have to wait because the game was released on the 17th of October on Steam and will be on an introductory sale until the 24th.

JOIST – Game Developers Meetup 3

If you would like to play one of these games and you live in Greece, then you are in luck. IGDA is hosting its Third annual Game Developers Meetup in Larissa on November 9th. During the event, you will play a lot of indie games created by Greek developers, like in Gamescom, and later, there will be multiple presentations from a large number of developers across the world who will share their experience working on AAA titles and the challenges they faced during the creation process.

IGDA-Greece Game Developers Meetup

There are even masterclasses and workshops you can apply to and take part in if you are interested in making a game yourself, and for those who already have a game in the works, there are pitching sessions both for professionals and hobbyists during the game that provide opportunities to new developers with ideas.

These recent times, we see small indie studios make small gems that are so good that they surpass big corporate studios because they are not greedy, and their goal is to create unique experiences that they are proud to create. Greece is very close to breaking that obstacle and finally making an entry on the gaming scene.
