Bambu Lab X2D Combo Review – The Unbeatable?

Today, we will be reviewing something that many 3D printing enthusiasts, including myself, anticipated: the new FDM printer Bambu Lab X2D, released on April 14th, 2026.

Even though I consider introductions to the company unnecessary, considering they are pioneers in the 3D printing world, let me share a few details for the newbies.

Bambu Lab was founded in August 2020 in Shenzhen, China, but debuted its first printer in the summer of 2022 with the X1 series. Ever since, they have released many more lines and models that cover most, if not all, needs and budgets.

Unboxing – The Art of Industrial Tetris

The packaging principles that Bambu Lab follows are the same across all of their printers, especially when the printer comes with an AMS unit. In this case, it’s the AMS 2 Pro.

It is very well thought out and executed. Everything is nicely, tightly, and neatly packed, leaving almost no space for anything to jiggle around. It truly seems that the person responsible for the packaging was a Tetris Master.

The few additional steps you need to follow with this printer (that I didn’t have to do with my X1C) were all related to the dual-nozzle system, with the second extruder mounted externally, similarly to the ventilation fan.

Bambu Lab X2D Setup & Instructions – You Need to Try Hard to Fail!

Similar to their packaging and build quality come the instructions: compact, clear, and with pictures. Many pictures.

One of the things I really appreciated was the use of color coding to highlight objects, movements, alerts, and warnings, making the setup process even easier to follow.

Even users who are completely new to 3D printing should have little trouble getting the printer assembled and ready to print.

Overall, the entire setup took me approximately 30 minutes, and I would rate the entire experience as totally beginner-friendly.

What’s New Compared to the X1C?

The headline feature of the Bambu Lab X2D is undoubtedly the dual-nozzle system.

Under certain conditions, this allows the printer to cut print times dramatically compared to the X1C. The primary nozzle can reach speeds up to 1000 mm/s, compared to the 500 mm/s maximum speed of its predecessor.

This is particularly beneficial for dual-color and dual-material printing, where traditional single-nozzle systems often spend a considerable amount of time swapping filaments.

Another major upgrade is the active chamber heating system. The heated chamber can reach up to 65°C, making the Bambu Lab X2D far more capable when printing engineering-grade materials such as:

  • Polycarbonate (PC)

Combined with the AMS 2 Pro’s drying functionality, the Bambu Lab X2D feels much more focused on advanced materials than previous generations.

Our Experience With the Beast

I have been using the Bambu Lab X2D for the past few weeks, and I have to say, I cannot get enough of it.

It feels like Bambu is actually listening to user feedback and implementing improvements with every generation. From simple quality-of-life features such as a flat-bottom design for easier cleaning to more advanced upgrades like the dual-nozzle system, AMS drying capabilities, and active chamber heating, the improvements are noticeable.

And then there is the price.

With all these additions and improvements, Bambu Lab somehow managed to launch the X2D at just €849, making it significantly cheaper than the X1C series while offering more functionality.

The First Bambu Lab X2D Print – The Mandatory Benchy

Of course, every new printer must begin its life by printing a Benchy.

The result came out exactly as expected: smooth, fast, and completely problem-free, despite using an older filament spool that hadn’t been dried beforehand.

A promising start.

Dual Material Testing

After the Benchy, I wanted to move directly into one of the areas where the Bambu Lab X2D should shine: dual-material printing.

I started with several parts using transparent PETG (probably not my smartest material choice), along with a support filament.

The prints came out great, although support removal was more difficult than expected. In hindsight, I blame the filament choice rather than the printer itself.

Thirty-four hours later, I had a finished laptop stand sitting on my desk.

PLA Supports on PETG – Round Two

Not fully satisfied with the previous results, I decided to try PLA as a support interface material for a PETG print.

The difference was immediately noticeable. Support removal was significantly easier, and the overall experience was much closer to what I originally expected from a dual-material setup

The Big Test – 72 Hours vs 46 Hours

The next challenge was a print that Bambu Studio estimated would take approximately 72 hours on a single-nozzle printer.

With the Bambu Lab X2D’s second nozzle enabled, the same project finished in just 46 hours.

That’s a 36% reduction in print time.

The result was simply outstanding. Quality, speed, and efficiency were all top-notch.

Pooping time

Everyone talks about faster printing.

Nobody talks enough about the poop.

After roughly 100 hours of mostly dual-color and dual-material printing, I was genuinely surprised by how little filament waste had accumulated compared to what I would normally expect from a traditional filament-swapping setup.

The second nozzle isn’t just about speed; it’s also about efficiency.

Is Everything Sunshine and Rainbows?

Not quite.

During my first 100 hours of printing with the Bambu Lab X2D, I encountered two issues.

The first was related to the second nozzle. I spent roughly 30 minutes troubleshooting before eventually solving it by carefully following the instructions.

The second issue occurred when the auxiliary extruder was unable to detect newly inserted filament.

About five minutes later, I found the culprit: a piece of filament had broken inside the filament path near the top of the extruder, preventing new filament from being inserted.

I have no idea how it broke, but in this case, I am blaming the filament again rather than the printer.

The Bambu Lab X2D Verdict – The New King?

After several weeks of testing, the Bambu Lab X2D feels like the natural evolution of everything that made the X1C successful.

The dual-nozzle system is not a gimmick. It reduces print times, decreases waste, and makes multi-material printing far more practical. Combined with active chamber heating, AMS drying functionality, and the excellent out-of-the-box experience that Bambu Lab has become known for, the X2D delivers an impressive package.
