Winter 2024 Anime releases: add watching more anime to your new year’s resolutions

Students get a high degree of freedom to mimic real life. The protagonist is Kiyotaka, quiet, not good at making friends, and very intelligent. He is dumped in the class with the inferior students. After meeting his classmates, the situation changes as they start getting involved in some affairs. His dream of an ideal normal high school life is out of the window.

Kyouka usually enslaves Shuuki and mounts them in combat, but given their dire situation she convinces Yuuki to let her enslave him instead. Yuuki eventually joins her squad and supports her dream of becoming Supreme Commander.

Based on a manga series, taking place in a fantasy world where guilds raid dungeons in search of the mysterious Golden Kingdom. A group of 6, led by Laios, fail to slay a dragon.  After two members leave, only Laios, Chilchuck, and Marcille stay to mourn the loss of Laios’ sister, Falin. Bound by gratitude for Falin’s magical rescue, they decide to return to the dungeon to save her. But in true D&D fashion, they are faced with limited supplies. Laios ultimately proposes an interesting solution: eating dungeon monsters. Reluctantly, Chilchuck and Marcille agree, and continue their journey, guided by the experienced dungeon dweller Senshi.

Based on a manga series, this story takes place in a magical world. Here a person’s position is determined by their power and magical skill. Protagonist Mash Burnedead is a young guy with close to no magical ability. If he wants to live a peaceful life, he needs to become a Divine Visionary. Only exceptional students from the Magic Academy are granted this title. Although he possesses no magic at all, he enrolls in this Academy, filled with determination to beat magic with muscles.

The sage tells the students that they will be trained as sages to fight demons. Only taking the gifted students and killing the adults for petty reasons, the sage shows her terrible nature. The rest of the students are simply left to die. Yogiri is looking for a way back together with his classmate Tomochika. But he is not a normal student, he has the ability to kill anything he wants – just by wishing for it.

But when she’s approached by a tourist asking for directions, she almost starts to panic as she’s not used to English. The handsome Itsuomi steps in and saves the day. When he learns that she is rather quirky herself, they become more and more friendly.

This marks the start of his journey to fight all kinds of enemies and discover the true source of his new-found powers.

Blue Exorcist is based on a manga series which follows teenager Rin Okumura, who discovers that he and his twin brother Yukio are the sons of satan?! Though they were born from a human mother, they are slated to inherit Satan’s powers. Rin is determined to defeat Satan however and enrolls at the True Cross Academe to become an exorcist.

Based on a light novel series with a manga adaptation. Several English translations of this long title are circulating, so you may find it under a similar name. The story is set in a world where Divine Blessings at birth dictate your destiny. Gideon Ragnason, member of a powerful group led by his sister, was destined to save the world from evil. Thanks to his Blessings he can survive any terrain, but it’s a rather common skill so he was eventually kicked from the party (without his sister’s knowledge). He wants to live an easier life now, with plans to open an apothecary. Will he be able to keep his past a secret?

A light novel fantasy series, turned into a manga and anime series. Makoto Misumi was an ordinary high school student, until he got summoned to a different world to become a hero. Its goddess insults him and casts him off into the wilderness, where he encounters all sorts of fantastical creatures. The OVA Metallic Rouge takes place in a world where humans and androids coexist. The protagonists are the android Rouge Redstar and the human Naomi. They are on a mission to Mars, where they need to kill nine rebel androids dubbed the Immortal Nine.

Based on a manga series. We’re in a world where the 17 ‘Origines’ have passed down their powers to individuals who exist today. A girl who has been cursed to have beast-like eyes has entered town together with a man carrying a coffin. She’s looking for a way to undo the curse. The story focuses on her quest for revenge against an evil witch.

Based on a manga series with a successful live action adaptation. As Kiyoshi Adachi is still a virgin when he reaches his 30th birthday, he naturally becomes a wizard. He gains the ability to hear people’s thoughts by touching them. He discovers that the popular coworker Yuichi Kurosawa is in love with him. Hearing his straightforward thoughts about Adachi becomes awkward rather quickly. But eventually, Adachi comes to terms with this new information and even starts to develop feelings of his own.

This OVA directed by Hiroko Utsumi will be animated by MAPPA. Arajin Tomoshibi reunites with his old friend Matakara Asamine. But their reunion takes an unexpected turn when they get into a fight with some of the toughest guys around. As if things weren’t looking bad already, a giant genie drops in as well. The story is supposed to bring ‘the ultimate showdown with a clash of cool and magic’.
